Jakob von Bülow

Jakob von Bülow (born April 5, 1626 , † September 12, 1681 ) was a Kurbrandenburg colonel and a Danish major general . He was the last commanding general of all fortresses in Holstein and Oldenburg as well as the fortress of Wismar .

Life

His parents were the district administrator Joachim von Bülow , the younger (1585–1643) from the house of Wehningen and his wife Anna Sophie von Grote from the house of Brese. His father was the heir of Wehningen, Gudow, Segran, Lehsten, Bandekow and Lauenburg district administrator and hereditary land marshal .

Military career

With only 15 years Bulow was Page of Weimar colonels and pulled into the Thirty Years' War . There he rose to major . His restless spirit led him as far as Spain. In 1651 Bülow returned home because his father had died and he now had to take care of the Gudow estate. In 1652 he married. In 1656 his privileges were confirmed by Duke Julius Heinrich . In 1664 Bülow became district administrator and hereditary land marshal of Lauenburg. After the death of his brother Otto Joachim (1616–1669) he inherited Wehningen and Jasebeck . In 1669 his wife died and in 1670 he remarried. Nevertheless, it drove him back into military service. Bülow went into Kurbrandenburg services and recruited the Leib regiment on horseback . With this regiment he fought against the French in Brabant until 1673. In 1675 he took part in the battle of Fehrbellin . In July 1675 Denmark also entered the Swedish-Brandenburg War . Bülow switched to Danish services and became chief of the 2nd Jutland National Equestrian Regiment. In the Battle of Lund in December 1675 he lost two horses and was injured. After the battle lost for Denmark, he became the commandant of the important Landskrona fortress ; in a failure against the Swedes he was wounded again. On June 8, 1677, he was appointed major general. He was given command of the Danish cavalry for the remainder of the war and was able to excel here. After the war he became the commanding general of all fortresses in Holstein and Oldenburg.

family

Bülow married Dorothea Margaretha von Wittorf († June 12, 1668) from the house of Lüdersburg in 1652. She was the daughter of Joachim Werner von Wittorf and Elisabeth Dorothea von Behr . The couple had the following children:

  • Joachim Werner (1653–1724), heir to Gudow, land marshal and district administrator of Lauenburg

After the death of his first wife, he married Margaretha von Rathlow from the House of Lenson, widow of Paul von Weissenau, on June 20, 1670. The couple's only son, Anton Ulrich, died young.
