Jamie Morgan (born June 8, 1971 in Sydney ) is a retired Australian tennis player .

Life

Morgan began tennis at the age of nine and was educated at the Australian Institute of Sport as a teenager . In 1989 he reached the semi-finals at the junior tournament of the French Open . In the following year he became a professional tennis player and was able to win the individual title at the ATP Challenger tournament in Guam that same year . However, this should remain the only single title in his career, plus two Challenger double titles. Between 1992 and 1994 he was in the final of an ATP tournament three times , but was inferior to his opponent each time. He reached his highest ranking in the tennis world rankings in 1993 with position 52 in singles and in 1995 with position 122 in doubles.

His best individual result in a Grand Slam tournament was reaching the round of 16 of the US Open in 1993, where he failed after victories over Francisco Clavet and Carlos Costa in five sets to Wally Masur . In the doubles competition he reached the second round of the Australian Open twice . In mixed he played once at the Australian Open and once at Wimbledon , but was eliminated in the first round.

Morgan played two individual games for the Australian Davis Cup team in 1994 . In the 1-4 defeat against Russia he won his singles against Alexander Volkov and lost to Yevgeny Kafelnikow .
