Jan Schertz (born November 27, 1969 in Berlin ) is a German ice hockey player who currently competes in the Berlin State League for the "Berlin Bears".

Career

Schertz began his career in 1987 at EHC Dynamo Berlin , for which he was active until 1997. In 1990 he played at the B World Championships for the GDR national ice hockey team . And in 1991 and 1996 he ran for the team of the German national ice hockey team at the world championships. In the summer of 1997 he joined the Heilbronn EC , where he was under contract for two seasons. There he was one of the team's best scorers and scored 123 points in a total of 112 games. Schertz then signed a contract with the Eisbären Berlin for the 1999/00 season , but they initially used him in their farm team at the time , the Eisbären Juniors Berlin , in the major league .

He played his first games in the German Ice Hockey League during the following season , when he wore the jersey of the Eisbären Berlin 19 times. After another season with the polar bears, in which he was used in 60 games, he moved to the then city rivals BC Prussia . With the Prussians Schertz was able to win the regional league championship in 2003 and move up to the third-class league. After the club had to file for bankruptcy in the summer of 2004 and faced economic collapse, he left the club.

For the 2004/05 season he came to the Dresdner Eislöwen as a striker . In the course of the season he switched to the defense and led the Eislöwen to promotion as captain. Also in the 2005/06 season Jan Schertz wore the C on his chest and was used as a defender by the then Eislöwen coach Jiří Kochta from the start.

In the 2006/07 season , Jan Schertz was the assistant coach of Jiří Kochta and later Stefan Mikes on the Dresden Ice Lions gang, before he was signed by the Saale Bulls Halle as a defender in summer 2007 , where he also rose to become captain . For the Saale Bulls, the left shooter completed a total of 52 league games and scored 41 points scorer. So he played a big part in keeping the Halle league. In the summer of 2008 he left Halle and returned to Berlin, where he was on the ice for the ECC Preussen Juniors Berlin in the fourth-class regional league. In the meantime (at least since 2015) he has played in the fifth-class Berlin regional league for the "Berliner Bären" club.
