Jana Sergejewna Romanowa ( Russian Яна Сергеевна Романова ; born May 11, 1983 in Kurgan ) is a former Russian biathlete .

Career

Jana Romanowa took her first steps on an international level as a junior. At the Junior World Championships in 2002 in Ridnaun , she was 23rd in the individual. The best result at the European Junior Championship in Kontiolahti that same year was a sixth place in the sprint. The Junior World Championships in Kościelisko were particularly successful the following year , where they won silver in sprint and pursuit and gold in the relay. Romanowa also won gold with the relay at the Junior European Championship of the year in Forni Avoltri . After a year in the Junior European Cup, the Russian competed in the Biathlon European Cup since the 2004/05 season . In Obertilliach she achieved her first results in the top ten, in the sprint she reached third place. At the 2007 Universiade on the Olympic courses in San Sicario , she won bronze with the Russian relay. So far, Romanowa only achieved an even better result in Langdorf as the runner-up in the individual. Shortly afterwards she made her debut in Antholz in the biathlon world cup . In her very first race, a sprint, she was 13th and won World Cup points for the first time. In 2007 she came seventh in Östersund and finished first in the top ten, and in Pokljuka in 2009 she was fourth in the individual. Jana Romanowa took part in the 2010 Winter Olympics. Her best result was 56th place in the individual. At the 2010 season finale in Khanty-Mansiysk , Romanova celebrated her first World Cup victory in the sprint.

Doping and suspension

The International Olympic Committee (IOC) imposed a life-long Olympic ban on Romanova in 2017. The lock was triggered by the McLaren Report . The Olympic medals received were revoked .
