Janina Baechle
Janina Baechle (born 1969 in Hamburg ) is a German opera singer with a mezzo-soprano voice . She has been a member of the Vienna State Opera ensemble since 2004 .
Life
Baechle grew up in southern Germany and studied musicology , history and singing in her native Hamburg. Brigitte Fassbaender was one of her teachers . After their debut in Hamburg, they took on permanent engagements at the Braunschweig State Theater and the Hanover State Theater . Since the 2004/2005 season she has been a member of the ensemble of the Vienna State Opera and sang in the Haus am Ring among others Mrs. Quickly in Verdi's Falstaff and Ulrica in his Ballo in maschera , Herodias in Wilde / Strauss' Salome and Annina in Hofmannsthal / Strauss' Rosenkavalier , Margret in Büchner / Bergs Wozzeck and Brigitta in Korngold's Toter Stadt . In 2007 she was the Marquise de Birkenfeld in Donizetti's La fille du régiment , alongside Natalie Dessay , Juan Diego Flórez and Montserrat Caballé . Her Wagner repertoire includes Mary (in the Flying Dutchman ), Ortrud (in Lohengrin ), Brangäne (in Tristan and Isolde ), Erda, Siegrune, Fricka and Waltraute (in the Ring of the Nibelung ), as well as the voice from above and the 2nd squire (in Parsifal ). By the end of the 2014/2105 season, the archive of the State Opera recorded a total of 311 appearances by the singer, including 19 times Ortrud and Annina, 17 times the Third Lady in Mozart's Magic Flute and 13 times the Brangäne. But she also sang the old Buryja 9 times in Leoš Janáček's Jenůfa and 8 times the witch Ježibaba in Dvořák's Rusalka .
Baechle has made guest appearances as Ortrud at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires, as Fricke at the San Francisco Opera , as Mrs. Quickly and Brangäne at the Théâtre du Capitole Toulouse , as Ježibaba at the Opéra National de Lyon , and as Gaea (in Strauss' Daphne ) and as Brangäne at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona. At the Semperoper in Dresden she appeared as Ortrud and Brangäne, at the Hamburg State Opera as Ms. Quickly and Amme and at the Bavarian State Opera in Munich as Ježibaba and Ortrud. She also appeared in the Festspielhaus Baden-Baden and at the Edinburgh Festival , as well as in Amsterdam and Toronto. She works closely with the conductor Christian Thielemann .
Baechle has also developed a wide repertoire of songs and is accompanied by pianists Markus Hadulla and Charles Spencer . In important concert halls she also sings Mahler's songs from a traveling companion or Schönberg's Gurre songs .
