The 2002 Junior World Championships in Ridnaun also brought a good result with tenth place in the individual. Things went even better at the Junior European Championship of the year in Kontiolahti . His last Junior World Championship was Pleikšnis 2003 in Koscielisko, where 26th place in the individual was the best result. At the Junior European Championships in Forni Avoltri , he even finished sixth over the distance, as well as with the relay.

In 2002 Pleikšnis also competed in adult races for the first time. After his successful participation in the Junior World Championships, he was nominated for the Biathlon World Cup in Ruhpolding , where he reached 107th place in the sprint and 16th place in the relay. Since 2003 he has also competed in the European Biathlon Cup . His first race in Ridnaun was a sprint in which the Latvian came 91st. In the World Cup Pleikšnis was first used in 2004, since then sporadically again and again. The best result in a pure World Cup race so far is a 65th place, which he achieved in a sprint in Pokljuka in 2005 . The best overall result was the 61st place that the Latvian achieved at the 2008 Biathlon World Championships in Östersund . He had already achieved a comparatively even better result at the 2004 European Biathlon Championships in Minsk with 35th place in the sprint. He finished the sprint of the Summer Biathlon World Championship 2007 in Otepää in 30th place.
