Jason Wheeler (born April 2, 1977 in Chicago , Illinois ) is a professional American poker player .

Personal

Wheeler grew up in Riverdale , Illinois, USA . He played chess in his childhood and youth . During his time in high school , he took part in chess tournaments in the Midwest , but ultimately decided not to pursue the hobby any further due to insufficient earning opportunities. Wheeler began studying computer science at the University of Illinois , but after a year switched to economics and then management consulting . After graduating, he worked for a financial services company where he earned a good salary. In April 2008, Wheeler lost his job due to the global financial crisis and became a professional poker player. He lives in Prague .

Poker career

Wheeler's place of work was relocated to San Diego in 2004 , where he first came into contact with poker as a result of the moneymaker boom . He played in private rounds with friends and also started playing online poker .

Wheeler has been playing online since August 2006 under the nicknames jdtjpoker ( PokerStars ) , jdpc27 ( Full Tilt Poker , UltimateBet , Bodog and Absolute Poker) , AlreadyHigh ( 888poker ) , eyesglazed (PokerLoco) and Gray Area (WPT Poker) . He has teamed up with tournament poker over eight million US dollars earned, with the bulk of US dollars to more than five million PokerStars was recovered. There he also secured a title at the World Championship of Online Poker in September 2011 , for which he received the main prize of more than 180,000 US dollars. In 2013, Wheeler was temporarily in second place in the PocketFives ranking, which lists the most successful online poker tournament players worldwide.

Wheeler was successful for the first time in June 2009 at the World Series of Poker (WSOP) in the Rio All-Suite Hotel and Casino in Las Vegas and came in the money in four tournaments of the No Limit Hold'em variant . He reached the final table at one event and took second place, worth just under 420,000 US dollars. At the end of October 2011 he finished second in a turbo tournament on the European Poker Tour (EPT) in Sanremo and received 53,700 euros due to a deal with Roger Hairabedian . At the EPT in Berlin in April 2013, Wheeler won a side event with a prize of just under 70,000 euros. In mid-May 2015 he prevailed in the High Roller of the World Poker Tour in Amsterdam and secured 125,000 euros. At the 2015 WSOP , Wheeler sat at a final table in late May 2015, finishing fifth for more than $ 110,000. At the EPT in Malta , he reached the final table in two high roller tournaments in October 2015 , earning him prize money of over 320,000 euros. In early March 2016, Wheeler won the WSOP Circuit Main Event at Bally's Casino in Las Vegas, receiving a gold ring and the grand prize of more than $ 320,000. At the main event of the PokerStars Championship in Prague he finished second after losing heads-up to Kalidou Sow in mid-December 2017 and secured his highest prize money to date of 570,000 euros thanks to a deal with the French.

In total, Wheeler has earned more than four million US dollars with poker in live tournaments. From April to November 2016 he played as part of the New York Rounders in the Global Poker League , but missed the playoffs with his team.
