Jean-Louis Bruguès OP (born November 22, 1943 in Bagnères-de-Bigorre , Hautes-Pyrénées department , France ) is a Curial Archbishop of the Roman Catholic Church .

Life

Jean-Louis Bruguès made his profession on September 29, 1969 and was ordained a priest on June 22, 1975 . From 1976 to 1997 he was professor of moral theology at the Catholic Institute in Toulouse and from 1997 to 2000 at the University of Friborg . He was a member of the International Theological Commission in Rome from 1986 to 2004.

On March 20, 2000, he was appointed Bishop of Angers by Pope John Paul II . He received his episcopal ordination from Pierre Cardinal Eyt , Archbishop of Bordeaux; Consecrators were his predecessor Bishop Jean Orchampt and the Archbishop of Rennes François Saint-Macary . In 2002 he became chairman of the Catholic Church's Commission on the Doctrine of the Faith in France.

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on November 10, 2007 Archbishop Curia and Secretary of the Congregation for Catholic Education . In 2012 he was appointed by Pope Benedict XVI. appointed Vatican archivist and librarian in succession to Cardinal Raffaele Farina .

Pope Francis accepted his resignation from these offices on June 26, 2018.
