Raffaele Farina
Raffaele Cardinal Farina SDB (born September 24, 1933 in Buonalbergo , Benevento Province , Italy ) is Cardinal Emeritus of the Roman Catholic Church .
Life
Farina joined the Order of the Salesians of Don Bosco on September 25, 1954 after finishing school. He received on 1 July 1958, the sacrament of the priesthood and worked from 1968 as a professor and dean at the Pontifical Salesian University , whose rector he was 1977-1983. In 1981 he became secretary of the Pontifical Committee for Historical Studies and in 1986 undersecretary of the Pontifical Council for Culture .
In 1991 he was again appointed rector of the Pontifical University of the Salesians. Pope John Paul II appointed him Prefect of the Vatican Library on May 25, 1997 .
On November 15, 2006, Pope Benedict XVI. Farina as titular bishop of Opitergium . He was ordained bishop on December 16 of the same year by Cardinal Secretary of State Tarcisio Bertone SDB; Co-consecrators were the Kardinalgroßpönitentiar , James Francis Cardinal Stafford , and the then archivist and librarian of Holy Roman Church, Jean-Louis Cardinal Tauran .
On June 25, 2007 Pope Benedict XVI appointed him. as archivist and librarian of the Holy Roman Church. At the same time Farina was raised to titular archbishop pro hac vice . Farina assumed the office of archivist and librarian of the Holy Roman Church on September 1, 2007.
Raffaele Farina was a member of the Pontifical Academy of Sciences during his time as Prefect of the Vatican Library . Since 2000 he has been a corresponding member of the Central Management of the Monumenta Germaniae Historica .
On November 24, 2007, Benedict XVI took him. as cardinal deacon with the title deaconry San Giovanni della Pigna in the cardinals college . On June 9, 2012, Benedict XVI. Farina's application to resign from the office of archivist and librarian of the Holy Roman Church for reasons of age.
After the resignation of Benedict XVI. Cardinal Farina attended the 2013 conclave . On June 24, 2013, Pope Francis appointed him President of the Commission for the Control of the IOR (Vatican Bank).
On 19 May 2018 he was retaining his title as Diaconia titular church pro hac vice to Cardinal priests appointed.
