Jean-Allarmet de Brogny (* around 1342 in Brogny near Annecy ; † February 15, 1426 in Rome ) was Cardinal Bishop of Ostia , Archbishop of Arles and Bishop of Geneva and Viviers .

Life

Jean de Brogny was born near Annecy around 1342, the son of a farmer . He studied in Avignon and received his doctorate in civil law in 1379 . He was a confidante of Robert of Geneva , the later antipope Clement VII, became his chaplain and chamberlain . In 1382 he became bishop of Viviers and in 1385 cardinal priest of Sant'Anastasia . From 1381 to 1387 he was a member of the Datarie , 1389 to 1391 Regens of the Penitentiary and from 1391 until his death head of the papal chancellery. In 1409 he broke with the antipope Benedict XIII. and joined the Council of Pisa . Between 1415 and 1417 he headed the Council of Constance . From 1410 to 1423 he was administrator of the Archdiocese of Arles and in 1423 administrator of the Diocese of Geneva. He donated the Maccabees College Chapel in Geneva Cathedral , where he was buried, the Dominican monastery in Annecy and the College of St-Nicolas d'Annecy in Avignon , to which he bequeathed his library.
