Jennie Snyder Urman

Jennie Snyder Urman (born June 6, 1975 in Rye , New York ) is an American television producer and screenwriter . One of her best-known productions is the series Jane the Virgin for the television channel The CW with Gina Rodriguez in the leading role.

life and career

Urman grew up in Rye, New York State . After graduating from Princeton University , she moved to Los Angeles and worked as a screenwriter for the ABC series Hope and Faith from 2003 to 2006 . Urman also wrote for the Gilmore Girls , Lipstick Jungle and 90210 series .

Her television series Jane the Virgin first aired in 2014. The series is a free adaptation of the Venezuelan telenovela Juana la Virgen . The series has been praised by the reviews for its satirical handling of typical telenovela motifs. At the Golden Globe Awards 2015 , the show was nominated for Best Series - Comedy or Musical , Gina Rodriguez won the award for Best Series Leading Actress - Comedy or Musical . The show won the Peabody Award in 2014 and was named to the American Film Institute's list of Top 10 Television Programs of 2014 . The last episode of the series aired on July 31, 2019.

Urman is married to cameraman Jamie Urman and has two children.
