Jennifer Weiner (born March 28, 1970 in DeRidder , Louisiana ) is an American writer , television producer and former journalist . She now lives in Philadelphia ( Pennsylvania ).

life and career

Weiner was born in DeRidder, where her father worked as a doctor in the US Army . She has a younger sister and two brothers. Weiner grew up in Simsbury ( Connecticut ). Her first novel Gut im Bett is loosely based on her life: the protagonist of the novel, Cannie Shapiro, is very similar to her. Like Cannie's parents, Weiner's parents divorced when she was 16, and her mother came out gay at age 55 . Weiner enrolled at Princeton University at the age of 17 . In 1991 she completed her bachelor's degree in English with summa cum laude . Her first story "Tour of Duty" was published in 1992 in an American teenage magazine.

After graduating, Weiner worked for the State College newspaper (Pennsylvania), where she published a regular column . Then she moved to the Lexington Herald-Leader ( Kentucky ), where she continued her column. Eventually she switched to the Philadelphia Inquirer , where she worked as a reporter. While working for the Philadelphia Inquirer, Weiner wrote articles for other magazines and journals. Weiner published her first novel Gut im Bett in 2001. Her second novel Two Sisters and a Wedding Dress was published in 2002 and was successfully filmed with Cameron Diaz , Toni Collette and Shirley MacLaine in 2005 under the title In my sister's shoes . Weiner's novels are very successful and have already been published in 36 countries.

In addition to her work as a writer, Weiner works as a co-developer and executive producer for the ABC Family - sitcom State of Georgia . She developed the pilot episode of the television series in which an overweight woman dreams of becoming a star on Broadway . The series was broadcast on American television in the summer of 2011, but was discontinued after 12 episodes.

Weiner is married and has two children.
