Jenny Rogneby (* 1974 in Ethiopia ) is a Swedish writer . She was a pop singer and worked as an investigator for the Stockholm Police. Her first detective novel became a bestseller in Sweden.

Life

When she was one year old, Ethiopian-born Jenny Rogneby was put up for adoption . She was adopted by a Swedish couple and grew up in a military base near Boden in northern Sweden. She received piano and dance lessons at the age of five. When she was 15, she moved to a larger city to do her A-levels. In Stockholm she attended a ballet academy and a musical school. At the age of 21 she was on the road as a musical performer and performed as a singer with various formations. As a member of a duo she had a hit in Japan, in Tallinn she appeared in the opening act for Michael Jackson in front of 80,000 spectators. She was a member of the girl group Cosmo4 , which took part in the Swedish preliminary round for the Eurovision Song Contest in 2007.

In addition to her musical career, Rogneby studied criminology , sociology and psychology at Stockholm University . In 2006, she wrote her thesis on exemplary possibilities and ways of leading marginalized groups of people out of the marginalized situation of homelessness , crime , prostitution and drug addiction and integrating them into society. She then worked for seven years as a police investigator in Stockholm. It was then that she came up with the idea for the character in the novel by Commissioner Leona Lindberg. For her, the most interesting thing about the investigation was "having the same situation, the same crime portrayed from the perspective of different people." In 2011, she attended a writing course during her summer vacation. Rogneby took a year off, sold her apartment and moved to Malta to write her first novel. Several publishers showed interest in the book, which became a bestseller in Sweden and then appeared in several languages.
