Jeon Jung-kook ( Korean : 전 정국 ; * September 1, 1997 ), better known internationally as Jungkook or Jung Kook , is a South Korean singer , songwriter and dancer . He is the youngest member of the boy band BTS , which was founded by Big Hit Entertainment in 2013 .

1997-2010: childhood

Jungkook was born on September 1, 1997 in Busan , South Korea . He has an older brother named Junghyun. He attended Baekyang Elementary and Secondary School in Busan. As a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment , he moved to Singu Secondary School in Seoul . In his childhood he went to Taekwondo and has the black belt there. After seeing a performance of the song Heartbreaker by BigBang member G-Dragon , Jungkook decided to become a singer.

2011 – today: adolescence and early adulthood

In 2011 Jungkook took part in the casting of the South Korean talent show Superstar K in Daegu . Despite dropping out on the casting show, he received casting offers from seven entertainment companies. After seeing the then Big Hit trainee RM at one of his performances, he decided to also become a trainee at Big Hit Entertainment . RM later became one of his bandmates in BTS, as well as the leader of BTS.

In June 2012, Jungkook appeared in JoKwon's music video I'm Da One . To improve his dance skills in preparation for debut, he traveled to Los Angeles in the months that followed to take a dance class from Movement Lifestyle . He also worked as a backup dancer for the girl group Glam before his debut. He graduated from the School of Performing Arts, or SOPA for short, in 2017. In November 2016, he decided to forego the CSAT, Korea's nationwide university entrance exam. He is currently enrolled at Global Cyber ​​University , along with BTS members RM , J-Hope , Suga , Jin, V and Jimin .

Career

Since 2013: BTS

On June 13, 2013 Jungkook debuted as a member of BTS with the single album 2 Cool 4 Skool . So far he has sung three solo tracks under BTS; the first solo track was the pop song "Begin" from the 2016 album Wings in which he tells his story when he moved to Seoul alone in his teens to become an idol and expresses his gratitude to his bandmates for helping them during this time were there for him. The second track, a Future Bass song entitled Euphoria , was released on April 5, 2018 with a nine-minute short film as an introduction to the third part of the BTS Love Yourself trilogy. The full studio track was included on their album Love Yourself: Answer , which came out on August 24, 2018. Euphoria was produced by DJ Swivel and landed at number five on the Billboard Bubbling Under Hot 100 Singles Chart. Euphoria was listed on the Gaon Digital Chart for 13 weeks. The third track '' My time '' was released in February 2020 as part of the album '' Map of the soul 7 ''.

Jungkook is the main producer of two BTS songs: Love is Not Over and Magic Shop.October 25, 2018, Jungkook (along with the rest of the BTS members) received the fifth-rate Hwangwan Medal for Cultural Merit from the President of South Korea.

Since 2015: solo activities

In September 2015, Jungkook took part in the "One Dream, One Korea" campaign, where he participated in a song collaboration in commemoration of the Korean War with many other Korean artists. The song was released on September 24th and presented at the One-K concert in Seoul on October 15th. Jungkook was part of the cast in the pilot of the show "Flower Crew" . He also appeared on Celebrity Bromance . He also proved himself in the show King of Mask Singer in the 72nd episode under the name "Fencing Man" (in German "Fechtmann").

On November 6th, 2018 he sang " We don't talk anymore " at the MBC Plus X Genie Music Awards as a duet with singer Charlie Puth , who sings the original version of the song with Selena Gomez . At this point he had already covered the song twice, once solo and once as a duet with his BTS bandmate Jimin.

On September 1, 2019 ( KST ), his 22nd birthday, he released the self-written and self-composed song "Decalcomania" , although the title was never officially confirmed. The song is an exclusively English-language pop ballad .

influence

In Gallup Korea's annual poll of the most popular celebrities in South Korea, Jungkook came in eighth in 2018. In the previous year (2017) it was 18th and in 2016 it was 20th.

In 2018, he was number one on Hi China magazine's list of the most popular celebrities in China for 10 weeks . In October 2018, Jungkook broke the record for the most live viewers with its solo livestream in platform V Live history with more than 3.7 million viewers from around the world. In December 2018, a video of Jungkook singing in his studio became the most tweeted tweet in South Korea for 2018. Many artists described him as an influence and role model, including Kim Dong Han and Hyeongseop X Euiwoong.

In January 2019, he mentioned using Downy fabric softener for his laundry. The statement sparked a surprising surge in the company's sales. In the end, the supplies that would otherwise last for two months were sold out. The company's share value rose more than 11% in a single day.

After Jungkook drank a wine (Vigor Merlot ) during a live stream on the V Live platform in June 2019 , it was sold out shortly after the live stream.

After fans found out that Jungkook decided to read Kim Soo-hyun's book Me To Live By, the book became a bestseller in Korea and Japan. The book set a record as the best-selling Korean publication in a short period of time (150,000 copies in three months). It was later analyzed that Jungkook was the reason for this. The book was subsequently published in other countries, such as China, Thailand and Indonesia.

In July 2019, Jungkook wore a "modern hanbok ". The company Zijangsa, which manufactured the Hanbok, reported that their server was overloaded due to the high demand and deliveries had to be delayed for up to three weeks. The Korean press reported that Jungkook set a trend in the Korean entertainment industry with its modern hanbok, after many other celebrities such as Jun Hyun-moo, Jang Do-yeon, Gong Hyo-jin , MC Oh Seung-hwan and The Return of Superman's Park Joo-ho also wore the modern hanboks.
