Jerlan Äbilfajysuly Ydyryssow ( Kazakh Ерлан Әбілфайызұлы Ыдырысов / Jerlan Äbilfajysuly Ydyryssow , Russian Ерлан Абильфаизович Идрисов / Jerlan Abilfaisowitsch Idrissow * 28. April 1959 in Karkaraly , Kazakh SSR ) is a Kazakh politician and diplomat. He was Kazakh Foreign Minister from 1999 to 2002 and from 2012 to 2016.

biography

Jerlan Ydyryssov was born on April 28, 1959 in Qarqaraly in the Karagandy region of Kazakhstan. From 1976 to 1981 he studied economic relations as well as Urdu and English at the Moscow State Institute for International Relations . From 1985 he was employed by the Foreign Ministry of the Kazakh Soviet Republic and head of the Press and Information Office of the Kazakh SSR.

In 1991 he worked for the Embassy of the Soviet Union in India . In 1992 he became 1st Secretary and Head of Department in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. He then became 1st Secretary of the Permanent Mission of Kazakhstan to the United Nations . From 1995 to 1996 he was employed by the Kazakh Foreign Ministry and for the next two years he was an advisor to the Kazakh President Nursultan Nazarbayev on international affairs.

He was appointed Foreign Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan in 1999. He held this office until 2002 before he was again Deputy Foreign Minister. On June 14, 2002 he became Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Kazakhstan to Great Britain . On December 2, 2002, he was also appointed Ambassador of Kazakhstan to Sweden , Norway and Ireland . He held these offices until 2007.

From July 4, 2007 he was Ambassador of Kazakhstan to the United States and since September 11, 2007 also Ambassador to Brazil.

Since September 28, 2012, he has been Kazakhstan's Foreign Minister under Prime Minister Serik Akhmetov , after which the previous Prime Minister Karim Mässimow voluntarily resigned from his office. He has been ambassador to the United Kingdom again since February 2017.

Ydyryssow is married to Nurilla Anarbekqysy Ydyryssowa and has two sons and a daughter.
