Jesse Stacken

Jesse Stacken (born June 28, 1978 in Minnesota ) is an American jazz pianist , composer and music teacher.

Stacken started playing the piano when he was ten; at the age of 16 he turned to jazz improvisation . After earning a bachelor's degree in music education from the University of Wisconsin at Eau Claire , he continued his studies at the Manhattan School of Music , where he studied with Garry Dial and obtained a master's in jazz piano . In New York he worked with Michael Blake , Tyshawn Sorey , Peter van Huffel , Liam Sillery, Sherisse Rogers and Erica von Kleist . He performed in New York clubs such as the Jazz Gallery , Jazz Standard , The Stone, Cornelia Street Cafe and Barbès , and from 2005 worked with his own trio ( That That , Fresh Sound Records 2008), with Eivind Opsvik and Jeff Davis . Other projects include the formation No Truck (with Kirk Knuffke , Justin Keller and Ziv Ravitz ), the duo Stacken / Knuffke (album Mockingbird on SteepleChase Records 2009); he also worked with Darcy James Argue , Tony Malaby , Sean Conly , Tom Rainey , Rufus Reid , Mat Maneri , Gerald Cleaver and Chris Potter , in Germany with Tobias Christl . In the field of jazz he was involved in 16 recording sessions between 2001 and 2011. Stacken teaches at the Bloomingdale School of Music in Manhattan.
