Yevgeny Mikhailovich Savitsky

Yevgeny Mikhailovich Savitsky ( Russian Евгений Михайлович Савицкий * January 30 ^{. Jul} / 12. February 1912 ^greg. In Mytishchi ; † 26. June 1984 in Moscow ) was a Russian physical chemist , metallurgist and university teachers .

Life

Sawizki studied at the Moscow Institute for Non-ferrous Metals and Gold with a degree in 1936. He then worked and taught at the Institute for General and Inorganic Chemistry (IONCh) of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (AN-SSSR). With his doctoral thesis on the influence of temperature on the mechanical properties of metallic systems, he became a doctor of chemical sciences in 1952 . The appointment as professor followed.

In 1954 Savitsky moved to the Moscow Institute for Metallurgy of the AN-SSSR, where he stayed until his death. In 1966 he became a corresponding member of the AN-SSSR. 1975–1978 he was director of the Institute for Metallurgy.

Sawizki's field of work was physical chemistry and metallurgy of non-ferrous metals, rare earth metals and refractory metals . He determined the properties of many metals and alloys and created the associated phase diagrams . He determined the yield point as a function of temperature and described the reasons for the brittleness of copper and brass as a function of temperature. He was one of the first to use the computer to predict the properties of metallic systems on the basis of quantum physical data.
