Joachim Kroll

Joachim Georg Kroll (born April 17, 1933 in Hindenburg in Upper Silesia , † July 1, 1991 in Rheinbach ) was a German serial killer , sex offender and cannibal . From Duisburg he murdered between eight and 14 people and partly consumed them.

Life

Joachim Georg Kroll was born the sixth of nine children of a miner in Upper Silesia and received a five-year, incomplete school education. Kroll, who is always considered a weakling and who showed an intelligence quotient of 76 in a test after his arrest , began to attack slaughtered animals early. In 1955, when he was still living with his father in Bottrop , he began to murder. One possible trigger was the death of his mother.

At the beginning of the 1960s, Kroll came to Duisburg. First he lived in a single dormitory in Duisburg- Huckingen and worked as a toilet cleaner at Mannesmann . Then he moved to Duisburg- Laar . He found a job as a caretaker for a wash house at the Thyssen hut in neighboring Bruckhausen . Kroll was regarded by his work colleagues as "inconspicuous" and "eccentric".

In August 1965, Kroll happened to see a man and his girlfriend in Duisburg- Großenbaum on a rendezvous in a VW Beetle . After Kroll stabbed his tire, the man left his car and was attacked by Kroll and seriously injured. The friend finally managed to escape in the car with her boyfriend. Despite immediately alerting the police, the perpetrator could no longer be found. The man died of his wounds.

In 1967, Kroll attempted another murder. An eleven-year-old girl who had already strangled Kroll to the point of unconsciousness survived his attack when workers unexpectedly approached a nearby mine. More murders followed.

A decade later, in 1976, Kroll was caught after kidnapping and murdering a four-year-old girl from the neighborhood. After Kroll tried to flush the dead girl's bowels down the toilet, he was caught by police officers searching for the missing girl after they found a freezer in Kroll's attic apartment with human remains wrapped in plastic bags . In a saucepan that was still on the stove, two hands, two feet, one forearm and one upper arm of the girl swam in salt water.

The "Ruhrkannibale" was arrested. While the girl was buried by the responsible pastor in Laar , who saw "the deed of a person possessed by the devil", Kroll was still hoping for her early release "for health reasons". The trial began on October 5, 1979, and on April 8, 1982 Kroll, who has meanwhile been referred to in the media as the "ogre of Duisburg", who had completed eight and had one attempted murder, was finally sentenced to life imprisonment . Kroll died of a heart attack in prison in Rheinbach prison .

  • June 4, 1962: Female, 12 years old, murdered in Walsum , (Duisburg). Strips of meat had been cut from her buttocks. An innocent man was arrested and released. The hatred of his neighborhood drove him to suicide in October 1962.
  • August 22, 1965: A man and a woman were attacked in Duisburg-Großenbaum . The man died of knife wounds.
  • September 13, 1966: Female, strangled in Försterbusch Park near Marl . Her boyfriend died of suicide after being falsely suspected.
  • December 22, 1966: Female, 5 years old, raped in Wuppertal and drowned in a lake.
  • July 12, 1969: Female, 61 years old, raped and strangled near Hückeswagen .
  • May 21, 1970: Female, 13 years old, was strangled walking home from a train station. An innocent man was arrested. In 1976 he falsely confessed to the crime after being harassed by his neighbors.
  • 1976: Female person, 10 years old, raped and strangled in Voerde .
  • July 3, 1976: Female, 4 years old, parts of her body were boiling in a saucepan when Kroll was arrested.
