Rheinbach correctional facility
The Rheinbach correctional facility is located on the outskirts of Rheinbach in North Rhine-Westphalia and is assigned to the Bonn Regional Court .
history
In 1914 the prison was inaugurated as a penitentiary . At that time up to 714 prisoners could be accommodated. In the 1950s and 60s there was an occupancy of up to 850 prisoners. In 1969, the reform of the penal law resulted in a conversion to a prison, which was accompanied by a significant reduction in the number of occupants.
On October 3, 1990, there was a four-day mutiny among the prisoners. 142 inmates demanded an amnesty , as it had been granted in the context of reunification in prisons of the former GDR; 100 of them occupied the roof of the institution.
From 2003 to 2005 the prison was modernized and expanded by 50 prison places. Since November 2015, the Rheinbach prison has had a department for the execution of prison sentences for older prisoners. Prisoners who have reached the age of 60 can be accommodated in the department.
The design, treatment and care is specially tailored to the needs of the elderly. In addition to age-appropriate and barrier-free accommodation, age-appropriate sports and leisure opportunities are also offered. In addition, special issues and problems of older inmates, such as B. Application for a pension or accommodation after discharge. The department can accommodate up to 16 prisoners.
The penal system of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia has two departments for older inmates in a closed penal system. A department with 22 prison places was set up in the Detmold correctional facility as early as 2007 . With the establishment of a department for elderly people in the Rheinbach correctional facility, North Rhine-Westphalia is expanding the range of penal services in the southern part of the state.
Jurisdiction
The JVA Rheinbach is responsible for the execution of:
- Imprisonment ( Erstvollzug ) of three months to two years
- Imprisonment of more than two years according to the result of the admission procedure
- Imprisonment of more than 24 months for foreigners
