The Wuppertal-Vohwinkel correctional facility, also known as the Simonshöfchen correctional facility , is one of two correctional facilities in Wuppertal . Up until December 2010 it was called the Wuppertal prison, but was renamed the Wuppertal-Vohwinkel prison with effect from December 1, 2010 due to the opening of the Wuppertal-Ronsdorf prison .
history
The prison Wuppertal in 1980 in the residential district Osterholz the Wuppertal municipality Vohwinkel , to replace the old in Elberfeld located Penitentiary Wuppertal on Bendahl built, which was closed with the opening of the new prison. The construction cost was around 100 million DM . The 840 meter long wall covers an area of 47,250 m². The name Simonshöfchen is derived from the construction site of the prison, which was built on the site of a branch of the nearby Simonshof court. The prison has 495 places, of which 394 are solitary confinement rooms, spread over three prison buildings.
Jurisdiction
The JVA Wuppertal-Vohwinkel is responsible for the execution of:
- Pretrial detention , extradition and transit detention for adults
- Imprisonment for less than three months
- Imprisonment ( first execution ) from three months up to and including two years
- Imprisonment ( standard execution ) from three to 18 months inclusive
- Imprisonment of more than 24 months up to and including 48 months for foreigners
- Civil detention on young people and adolescents

The JVA Wuppertal-Vohwinkel has 230 employees. The prison management consists of two employees. In addition, three clergymen , a doctor , four psychologists and eight social workers are employed.
