The Iserlohn correctional facility is a juvenile prison in Iserlohn , in which young people and adolescents between 14 and 24 years of age serve a juvenile sentence. It is located in the north of the city in the Drüpplingsen district .
history
The correctional facility was built in 1970 and expanded in 1988 to include school and workshop buildings and a protective wall. It extends over an area of 114,628 m² (19,634 m² of which is built on) and has a sports field with a circular track, jumping pit and shot put circle.
Of the 292 detention places, 160 are used for closed execution , 88 a special form of closed execution and 19 for open execution , 25 are in the temporary building.
On June 24, 2014, the state government of North Rhine-Westphalia decided to completely rebuild the prison. From 2020 all buildings are to be demolished and new ones built. The prison should have 340 places and be ready by 2027.
Jurisdiction
The JVA Iserlohn is responsible for the execution of:
- Juvenile punishment , imprisonment in a closed prison for adolescents and adolescent men
- Pretrial detention , extradition and transit detention as well as civil detention for young people and adolescent men
- Youth penalty, imprisonment in open execution
- Pretrial detention and criminal detention (closed prison) for female adolescents and adolescents

Education and training
The JVA Iserlohn is an institution in North Rhine-Westphalia that also offers vocational training for prisoners. The prison currently has 90 training places in various areas. Carriers of the training is the Berufsförderungswerk of the German Federal union . Be formed:

- Highly skilled worker with continuation to become a bricklayer

- Industrial mechanic (machine and system technology)
- Cutting machine operator ( specializing in turning technology )
- Modular qualification for metal professions
- Building and object coaters with further training as painters and varnishers
- Modular qualification in the field of painters and varnishers
In order to enable the prisoners to transition to the world of work as seamlessly as possible after their arrest, an employee of the "MABIS" (market-oriented training and employment integration for those released from prison) is available. MABIS cooperates with authorities, educational institutions and employers and arranges training and jobs here after imprisonment.
Jobs in the prison
Of the approximately 200 employees, 130 work in general prison service . There are also various specialist services such as a doctor, pastor, psychologist, teacher, social worker, administrative staff and workers in the works service. In addition, 11 trainers and 21 vocational school teachers work in the prison.
