The penal institution Bielefeld-Brackwede is a closed penal institution for women and men in Bielefeld-Brackwede . The institution is located in the district Ummeln in Bielefeld in Detmold in the northeast of North Rhine-Westphalia .

history

Construction work on what is now the Bielefeld-Brackwede correctional facility began in 1973. On May 1, 1977, the prison was put into operation. In the years 1979 to 1982 an additional prison house with 26 more secure prison places was created, which was necessary on the occasion of the German autumn . Observation pulpits were also erected at the corners of the wall on this occasion .

The heating system was modernized between 2000 and 2002. In 2006 and 2007 the entire prison premises were equipped with camera surveillance. In 2018 the construction of a new detention building began, which should enable the renovation of the old building.

Jurisdiction

The JVA Bielefeld-Brackwede is responsible for the execution of:

• Imprisonment , detention , extradition and transit prison with adult women
• Pre-trial detention, extradition, transit detention and civil detention of adult men
• Imprisonment ( standard execution ) from three months up to and including two years
• Imprisonment of more than two years according to the result of the admission procedure
• Imprisonment of more than 48 months for foreigners

The competencies of the penal institutions in North Rhine-Westphalia are regulated in the execution plan of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia (AV d. JM of September 16, 2003 - 4431 - IV B. 28 -).

Education and training

The JVA Bielefeld-Brackwede offers vocational training for prisoners. There are 12 training positions available. Carriers of the training is the Berufsförderungswerk of the German Federal union . In the correctional facility Bielefeld-Brackwede is for cooking and is designed to cook.
