The correctional facility Willich II is a correctional facility (JVA). It was created in 1985 through the separation of the Willich penal institution into the independent institutions Willich I penal institution for men and Willich II penal institution for women to serve their prison sentences . They are located in the Willich district of Anrath on the Lower Rhine between Krefeld and Mönchengladbach .

Both individual institutions are located in four-winged buildings (cross structures) erected between 1900 and 1905. A new building was built for JVA Willich II (women).

history

The separation into two prisons took place in 1985.

A new building was erected for the Willich II prison by 2009, for which a number of listed office buildings were demolished. This led to violent but unsuccessful protests in the population and by monument preservationists.

In 2010, the Anrath district of the city of Willich celebrated its 1000th anniversary. As part of the celebrations taking place, the penal institutions Willich I and Willich II use the opportunity to offer an open day. During the weekend from October 1st to 3rd, 2010 1,300 visitors were shown through the two correctional facilities.

Facility

After the women's shelter was made independent, JVA Willich II is now the only independent prison for women in North Rhine-Westphalia . Up to 2009 there were 141 places in the closed prison and 59 places in the open prison. On September 2, 2009, the new building for the Willich II prison was completed and occupied. Since moving in, JVA Willich II has 198 places in the closed prison and 66 places in the open prison. The building of the open enforcement is located at Gartenstrasse 26 and is outside the protective wall. The former building of the Willich II penal institution is being demolished as part of the new construction work for the Willich I penal institution. A detention center for male prisoners on remand is to be built at the same location.
