The Attendorn correctional facility was established in 1968 on parts of the grounds of the Ewig monastery near Attendorn in the Sauerland in North Rhine-Westphalia . In the Attendorn prison, custodial sentences are carried out on men in open and closed prison systems.

history

In 1967 the buildings of the Ewig monastery became the property of the state of North Rhine-Westphalia , which set up the state's first open correctional facility there in 1968 . From 1978 to 1988, today's correctional facility was built in various construction phases, which was officially handed over to the Attendorn prison on November 25, 1988 with a celebration.

The Siegen correctional facility existed from 1936 to 2011 (from 1971: Siegen branch of the Attendorn correctional facility), housed in the Lower Castle in Siegen . After the establishment of the Attendorn prison, it was run as a branch of the Attendorn prison. It had 76 places in the closed prison . In 2011 the Siegen branch was closed after the closed facility was relocated to a new building at the Attendorn site. At that time, the state invested around 37 million euros in the new construction and renovation.

The Attendorn prison has 126 closed and 302 open detention places, including 30 places in a temporary house.
