Joachim Eberhard Wiebering (born September 25, 1934 in Schwerin ; † August 24, 2019 there ) was a German Evangelical Lutheran theologian . From 1987 to 1998 he was regional superintendent of the Rostock parish of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Mecklenburg.

Life

From 1952 Wiebering studied Protestant theology at the Universities of Rostock (4 semesters ) and Leipzig (4 semesters). In 1956 he returned to Rostock for the exam. After his exams he stayed at the university as assistant to Heinrich Benckert . In 1960 he was charged with a dissertation on the doctrine of the church at Werner Elert for Dr. theol. PhD. From 1962 to 1967 he was pastor of the second parish at the Teterow town church . In 1967 he moved to Rostock , where he became a student pastor. The pastor's office was officially the second pastor's office at the Jakobikirche , which had no longer existed as a building since 1960 , since the student community in the German Democratic Republic was not allowed as a separate community, but only as an "expression of life in the area of the church". The Ministry of State Security , which believed he was progressive , developed an "action plan". In the spring of 1970, Wiebering's planned recruitment as an unofficial employee to spy on the student community had to be canceled due to his refusal to cooperate.

In the run-up to the bishopric election of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Mecklenburg to succeed Niklot Beste , Wiebering was initially considered to be a promising candidate. In an article for the Mecklenburgische Kirchenzeitung in November 1970, however, he criticized the unreserved approval of the confessions of the Evangelical Lutheran Church as a prerequisite for ordination and was therefore no longer acceptable as a candidate for episcopal office. He left Rostock and went to the Leipzig Theological Seminary as a lecturer in systematic theology . This joint academic-theological training facility of the three Evangelical Lutheran regional churches in the GDR, the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Saxony, the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Thuringia and the Evangelical Lutheran regional church in Mecklenburg was independent of the state and only tolerated by the GDR authorities ecclesiastical institution whose degrees were only recognized in the Protestant church. From 1976 to 1978 he was rector of the seminar. in Leipzig he wrote two widely used textbooks on theological ethics and Christian ethos in everyday life.

In 1983 he was again a candidate in the run-up to the Mecklenburg bishopric election. But Christoph Stier was elected . On April 1, 1987 Wiebering was appointed state superintendent of the Rostock church district and so returned to Mecklenburg. Connected with this was the first parish at Rostock's Marienkirche . During the turn in autumn 1989 he was involved at an early stage; he was the first chairman of the round table in Rostock, which was constituted on December 9, 1989.

He took early retirement in April 1998 at the age of 63 . He spent his retirement in Schwerin.
