Joseph "Joey" Lawrence (* 20th April 1976 in Philadelphia , Pennsylvania as Joseph Lawrence Mignogna Jr. ) is an American film actor and singer .

Life

Lawrence is of Italian descent and grew up in Pennsylvania. His father Joseph Lawrence Mignogna Sr. works as an insurance broker, and his mother Donna Mignogna, a former elementary school teacher, works as a manager. The family name was changed to "Lawrence" during his childhood. He has two younger brothers who are also actors, Andrew and Matthew .

In 1994 he graduated from Abington Friends School in Jenkintown, Pennsylvania. He then graduated from the University of Southern California .

Career

Acting

Like his brothers, Joey began acting as a child, initially in commercials . He made his first appearance on the Tonight Show when he was five . After guest appearances on the television series Diff'rent Strokes and Silver Spoons , he was a permanent member of the sitcom Gimme a Break from 1983 to 1987 . In 1988 he was the voice of Oliver in the Disney movie Oliver & Co . From 1991 he became known for the portrayal of Joey Russo in the comedy series Blossom .

From 1995 he was seen for three years with his brothers in the series Brotherly Love . He also directed some episodes . He was rarely seen on the big screen, with the exception of the 2000 film Dark Legends 2. In May 2007 he played the lead role in the Broadway musical Chicago as Billy Flynn. Two years later, Lawrence starred opposite Melissa Joan Hart in the TV movie My Fake Fiancé . From 2010 to 2015, the two also starred in the sitcom Melissa & Joey .

In 1993, his debut album, Joey Lawrence , was released, which was placed on the US Billboard 200 and in the British album charts. The single Nothin 'My Love Can't Fix contained in the album was used as the closing melody for the film Cop and a Half . The single also made it into the top 20 of the Billboard Hot 100 and the British single charts.

In 1997 he released his second music album Soulmates , which was less successful. The single Never Gonna Change My Mind was placed in the top 50 of the British single charts for two weeks. In 2011 he released several songs.

Private life

Joey married Michelle Vella in 2002. After the divorce, he married Chandie Yawn-Nelson in July 2005, with whom he has two daughters.
