Johann-Christoph Ottow

Johann-Christoph Ottow (born December 24, 1922 in Greifswald ; † August 29, 2012 in Niederpöcking ) was a German architect and university professor who worked in Munich .

Life

Ottow began studying architecture at the Technical University of Munich in 1941 , but was drafted into military service in the same year, so that he could not continue his studies until 1945. He is one of the founders of the German-Baltic Corporation Fraternitas Dorpatensis in Munich, which was founded on December 16, 1948. After graduating in 1949, he worked as a freelance architect in Munich, a. a. in the office of Helmut von Werz , whose partner he became in 1952. Together with Helmut von Werz, he built numerous settlements, schools, churches, office buildings and hospitals. In 1969 he was awarded the City of Munich's Architecture Prize .

In 1973 Ottow was appointed to the Chair of Introduction to Design (later: Basics of Design and Hospital Construction ) at the Faculty of Architecture at the Technical University of Munich . From 1980 to 1982 he was dean of the faculty for architecture at the university and after his retirement in 1989 he rejoined the office community with Helmut von Werz, Erhard Bachmann and Michel Marx . The architectural office has been continued to this day and is now called Brechensbauer Weinhart + Partner Architects. Partners are: Georg Brechensbauer, Claus Weinhart, Joachim Werner, Andreas Pietsch, Michael Irlen, Markus Bachmann, Thomas Grühn.
