Johann-Matthias Graf von der Schulenburg (born June 20, 1950 in Hamburg ) is a German economist at the University of Hanover .

Life

He comes from the German noble family von der Schulenburg and from the Beetzendorf I house . His parents were Werner Graf von der Schulenburg and Rosemarie, daughter of Joachim von Blücher . His brother Michael was born in 1947.

Von der Schulenburg was born in Hamburg and named after Matthias Johann von der Schulenburg , Field Marshal General in the service of the Republic of Venice . He went to school in Lippstadt and Bielefeld , is married, has three sons, is a Protestant and a legal knight of the Order of St. John . Since 2013 he has been a member of the order's government (initially as order treasurer, since 2019 as order craftsman) of the Order of St. John.

He heads the forest administration of the Counts von der Schulenburg, which is owned by the Schulenburg family. From 2009 to 2017 he was chairman of the schulenburg family association.

After completing his military service (lieutenant in the reserve), he studied economics , sociology and law at the universities of Bielefeld , Göttingen and the Universidad Internacional Menéndez Pelayo in Santander . He did his doctorate and habilitation at the LMU Munich .

Before he went to the Wissenschaftszentrum Berlin , where he headed the Market Process and Corporate Development department, he spent a year doing research at Princeton University . He was also visiting professor at Aix-en-Provence , the École des hautes études commerciales (HEC) in Jouy-en-Josas , and Duke University , North Carolina . In addition to the call to the University of Hanover, he received offers to the universities of Cologne , Ulm , Munich and the TU Berlin .
