Johann Anton Morath

Johann Anton Morath , baptismal name: Antonius Morath (born January 3, 1718 in Staufen ; † September 5, 1783 in St. Blasien ) was a German baroque painter .

Life

He learned from the famous church painter Franz Joseph Spiegler . From 1749 he was self-employed. His main work is the painting of the pilgrimage church St. Landelin in Ettenheimmünster . From 1762 Johann Anton Morath was court servant of the St. Blasien monastery .

Various lithographs are ascribed to him, particularly from the Klettgau area , but these come from another artist, the son of Joseph Anton Morath , the lithographer Johann Martin Morat from Stühlingen . Alois Senefelder did not invent lithography until 1798.
