Johann Georg Franck , also Francke , (born January 19, 1669 in Kühren , † January 29, 1747 in Halle (Saale) ) was a German Protestant theologian and teacher . Franck was the royal Prussian consistorial councilor and pastor at the Marktkirche Our Dear Women in Halle.

Life

Johann Georg Franck was born the son of a preacher . Shortly after the birth of his son , his father of the same name became a deacon , archdeacon since 1678 , at the town church in Eilenburg . Franck initially received home tuition and attended school in Eilenburg. In 1682 he went to the grammar school in Gera and in 1685 to the Elisabet grammar school in Breslau . There he was a student of Martin Hanke and Christian Gryphius .

In 1686 he began studying at the University of Leipzig . A daughter of Christian Lorentz von Adlershelm gave Franck a free table in Leipzig for the entire duration of her studies , out of gratitude because his father had taught her in her youth. He first studied philosophy and oriental languages . With his disputation De Urnis Feralibus he received early in 1689 by Valentin Alberti the master's degree . He now studied theology and attended lectures by Johann Benedict Carpzov , Johannes Olearius , Thomas Ittig and Adam Rechenberg . Franck completed his habilitation at the Leipzig University with the disputation De Impositione Nominum and immediately began to give theological lectures himself. He was accepted as a member of the Große Predigerkolleg in Leipzig.

Completely unexpectedly he received an invitation to a guest sermon at the Marktkirche Our Dear Women in Halle. In June 1692 Franck became adjunct at Halle's Marktkirche, an office he held for 17 years. In 1709 he became a deacon and in 1716 archdeacon. In 1722 Franck was appointed inspector of the city ministry and the hall circle as well as a scholarch at the Lutheran city high school in Halle. On October 30, 1722, after the death of Johann Michael Heineccius , he was appointed senior pastor at the Marktkirche Our Dear Women in Halle. A few days later, on November 7, 1722, King Friedrich Wilhelm I of Prussia gave him the character of a consistorial councilor. In July 1742 he celebrated his 50th anniversary as a teacher. In the same year he was seriously injured when he fell down a staircase, but was soon able to resume his pastoral duties.

Johann Georg Franck died on January 29, 1747 at the age of 78 in Halle. A few days earlier he had given his last sermon. Franck had been married to Klara Elisabeth, the daughter of the Saxon chamber master and Pfänner from Halle Otto Heinrich Mylius , since 1692 . The couple had seven children, five sons and two daughters. The eldest daughter Christine Elisabeth married the lawyer Johann Friedemann Schneider , her younger sister Johanna Elisabeth the philosopher Johann Friedrich Stiebritz .

Franck left behind numerous writings, in addition to his university works before all sermons and funeral sermons.
