Johann Georg Oldekop

Johann Georg Oldekop (born January 6, 1696 in Wolfenbüttel ; † May 11, 1758 ibid) was a German Protestant clergyman.

Life

Johann Georg Oldekop was the son of Magnus Peter Oldekop (born February 6, 1669 on the island of Ösel in Livonia ; † November 21, 1724), a deacon at the New Church in Wolfenbüttel and later archdeacon at the main church there , and his wife Sophie Agnese (* December 20, 1664 - † October 4, 1714), daughter of the mayor Johann Heinrich Sellen from Wolfenbüttel. After attending the Illustre grammar school in Gotha , he studied theology at the University of Jena , the University of Halle , the University of Wittenberg and the University of Helmstedt . On 10 December 1748 his doctorate he attended the University of Helmstedt to Dr. theol.

In 1719 he taught as private tutor , among others at Salzdahlum Castle, the three princes Karl , Anton Ulrich and Ludwig von Braunschweig; on February 29, 1720 he became a collegiate at the Riddagshausen monastery and gradually had to teach the twelve children of Prince Ferdinand Albrecht II of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel .

In 1721 he became an assistant to his father, in 1724 a deacon at the main church in Wolfenbüttel and in 1730 an archdeacon . In 1736 he was appointed court preacher and in 1750 he became confessor of the ducal house of Braunschweig-Wolfenbüttel.

He was commissioner for the poor institutions in Wolfenbüttel and in the examination committee for the examination of theological candidates.

On May 22, 1754 he was appointed real consistorial councilor and church councilor and in 1755 general superintendent in Wolfenbüttel.

Johann Georg Oldekop was married to Marie Sophie († September 11, 1798), daughter of the princely land tax Julius Philipp Mackensen, since April 13, 1728. Together they had two sons and three daughters; of these are known by name:

  • Sophie Elisabeth (born September 21, 1729), married to the provost and superintendent Gottlieb Heise (1715–1791) in Salzdahlum .
