Johann Gottlieb Schober (born October 8, 1767 in Görlitz ; † February 24, 1840 ) was a German Protestant clergyman.

Life

Johann Gottlieb Schober was the son of the beer maker Johann Christoph Schober (born December 18, 1712 in Wendisch-Muskau ; † May 20, 1792) and his wife Maria Elisabeth (born February 26, 1727 in Haagendorf; † July 31, 1790). Heyern.

In 1783 he attended the Augustum-Gymnasium in Görlitz and had lessons from Johann Gottfried Altenberger (1734–1799), Ernst Friedrich Lubisch (1735–1796), Johann August Ferdinand Hortschansky (1770–1831), Georg Gottfried Petri , Christian Samuel Friedrich Grosser ( 1720–1792), Johann Friedrich Neumann (1737–1802), Christian August Schwarze (1755–1809) and Friedrich Christian Baumeister .

In 1786 he began studying theology at the University of Leipzig, supported by the Görlitz magistrate with a grant . He has heard lectures in theology from Karl August Gottlieb Keil , Johann Christian Rosenmüller and Samuel Friedrich Nathanael More , philosophy lectures from Ernst Platner , lectures in history and language from Christian Daniel Beck and mathematics lectures from Carl Friedrich Hindenburg .

After completing his studies in 1789, he initially taught children from respected families as a private tutor in Görlitz and became a collaborator at the grammar school in 1793 and a member of the priests' college in 1795. After his ordination in Leipzig , he succeeded Pastor Johann Christian Neumann on February 21, 1796 in Gersdorf bei Lauban, who took over the pastoral office in Schreibersdorf . In 1808 he received an appointment from the Görlitz magistrate to come to the local Peter and Paul Church as pastor . However, he only gave a guest sermon, but then refused to return to his home town because he did not want to leave his congregation in Gersdorf. In 1809 he was called to Jänkendorf near Niesky and refused this office as well as a second appointment to Görlitz to the Trinity Church .

After the death of his wife he took over the vacant pastor's office in Waldau , after Magister Vogel had died there in 1814. On June 11, 1815 he was appointed pastor by the collator Karl Gottlieb Anton and took office in Waldau on October 8, 1815. The newly built school building in Ober-Waldau was inaugurated on the same day; a work that he had largely prepared. In 1825 he introduced a new hymn book to one of his parishes.

On April 21, 1832 he was appointed superintendent of the second Bunzlau diocese and was appointed to this office on July 10, 1832 by the general superintendent Friedrich Ribbeck .

On April 17, 1796 he married Christiane Gottliebe Kleeditz (* unknown, † March 8, 1815), a daughter of Magister David Heinrich Kleeditz, pastor in Liebenau near Pirna . After the death of his first wife, he married Ernestine Elisabeth Christiane for the second time on November 21, 1810, widowed von Warnsdorf, geb. from gravelly weather.
