Johann Graf Larisch von Moennich (born May 30, 1821 in Schönstein , Austrian Silesia , † June 3, 1884 at Lamport Hall , Northamptonshire , England ) was an Austrian landowner and finance minister.

Life

Johann Graf Larisch von Moennich came from a wealthy and wealthy primeval aristocratic family residing in both the Prussian and Austrian parts of Silesia , which continues to this day in both noble, baronial and counts. He was born on May 30, 1821 in Schönstein, Opava district in Austrian Silesia as the son of Count Heinrich von Larisch-Moennich (* January 7, 1793 - April 21, 1859) and his wife, Countess Henriette von Haugwitz (* 14. July 1799) born. He died on June 3, 1884 at Lamport Hall, England .

career

When his father died, Johann Graf Larisch von Moennisch inherited not only his extensive agricultural property, but also several commercial enterprises, including very profitable coal mines. In addition to managing and expanding his property, he was also involved in local politics. So he was elected as a member of the Silesian landed property in the Silesian state parliament, to which he belonged from 1861 to 1865. At the same time he was appointed governor of Austrian Silesia, an office which he held until July 27, 1865. On that day he was appointed finance minister in the Austrian cabinet under Prime Minister Count Belcredi, because Richard Belcredi wanted a financially independent man who was familiar with economic tasks, and who he knew personally from Silesia, to this post. Larisch, however, resigned as finance minister on January 21, 1867 for personal and health reasons.

In addition to his economic interests and the completion of his political tasks, Johann Graf Larisch von Moennich also took on honorary posts at court in Vienna . In 1861 he became a kuk chamberlain , in 1863 a privy councilor and finally in 1871 an upper court marshal . In addition, Emperor Franz Joseph I appointed him hereditary member of the manor house of the Austrian Imperial Council . As a further honor, he was raised to knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece in 1873 .

He married Franziska von Kraft on May 1, 1849 (* May 17, 1829). The couple had several children:

  • Franziska Johanna Maria (born September 29, 1862)
