Location of the Okres Opava

The Okres Opava ( German  district of Opava ) is a regional authority in the Moravian-Silesian Region in the Czech Republic . The Okresy were roughly comparable with the districts in Germany, the district administrations were dissolved on December 31, 2002 .

The district includes the eastern part of the Moravian-Silesian region with the Hultschiner Ländchen and is located between the Lower Jeseníky , the Oder Mountains and the city of Ostrava . 176,254 people (as of January 1, 2019) live in 77 municipalities (Obec) in Okres Opava.

Of the area 1,113 km², about 27% is forested, 82% can be used for agriculture. The region is also connected to three microregions ( Hlučínsko , Moravice and Matice Slezská ), part of which belongs to the Silesia Euroregion .

The structure of the industry consists of food manufacturers, metalworkers and machine builders.

Tourism plays a subordinate role in this region. The main destinations for visitors are the cities of Opava , Hradec nad Moravicí and Vítkov .

Since January 1st, 2007 the municipalities Čavisov , Dolní Lhota , Horní Lhota and Velká Polom belong to the Okres Ostrava-město .
