Johann Heinrich von Holtzmann (* 1706 ; † September 28, 1776 in Neisse ) was a Prussian colonel and commander of the Silesian Artillery Garrison Battalion. On April 11, 1741, he was raised to the nobility by the Prussian King Friedrich II and his brothers .

Life

Holtzmann comes from a middle-class Berlin family. He was the second son of the major and Feruerwerkmeister Johann Heinrich Holtzmann († 1724 in Berlin). His brothers Ernst Friedrich († October 15, 1759) and Georg Ludwig († January 26, 1754) were also in the artillery .

He joined the artillery corps on September 1, 1720 as a gunner. On October 1, 1728 he was second lieutenant and on September 1, 1732 prime lieutenant . In 1733, Holtzmann volunteered in the imperial expeditionary corps to Corsica . On November 19, 1741 he became a captain without having previously been a staff captain . During the Silesian Wars he organized the transport of artillery. After the occupation of Wroclaw , Holtzmann restored the gun foundry there and became director for several years.

On October 16, 1752 he was promoted to major, on April 20, 1755 lieutenant colonel and on February 25, 1759 colonel. After the Peace of Hubertusburg , Holtzmann actually wanted to say goodbye, but after the death of Colonel Johann Friedrich von Merkatz , the promise was withdrawn. Holtzmann was appointed commander of the Silesian Artillery Garrison Companies on April 18, 1763.

He was married to the widow Damerow. The marriage remained without children.

Holtzmann wrote the diary of Colonel von Holtzmann from the First and Second Silesian Wars , which later researchers used as a source.
