Johann Hermann Franz Kasimir Leo (born March 15, 1794 in Königsberg , † June 15, 1869 in Brandenburg an der Havel ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

His parents were the judiciary Gottlieb Ephraim Leo and his wife Karoline Dorothea, née Golz. Lieutenant General Otto Leo (1793-1865) was his brother.

Military career

Leo joined the East Prussian Artillery Brigade of the Prussian Army as a gunner on August 9, 1808 and was promoted to Second Lieutenant by mid-April 1811 . During the Wars of Liberation he was at the sieges of Spandau, Wittenberg, Maubeuge, Landrecies, Philippeville, Rocroy and Givet as well as the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz , Leipzig , Ligny and Belle Alliance . At Ligny, he earned the Iron Cross, 2nd class.

On June 19, 1815, Leo was promoted to prime lieutenant and on May 22, 1816, joined the 5th Artillery Brigade as captain . On February 15, 1830, he was transferred as an artillery officer from the square to the Torgau fortress . With his promotion to major on January 22, 1832, Leo was transferred to the 6th Artillery Brigade as the fifth staff officer and also served as a member of the artillery examination committee. On January 2, 1837 he came to the 7th Artillery Brigade as a department commander and rose to lieutenant colonel in April 1842 . With the rank and fee of a department commander, he was appointed inspector of the artillery workshops on June 26, 1843. In this position Leo received the Red Eagle Order IV class on September 23, 1844 and advanced to colonel on March 22, 1845 . Under awarding of the character as a major general, he took his on December 28, 1847 farewell with board . He died on June 15, 1869 in Brandenburg an der Havel.

Leo married on October 22, 1824 in Gumbinnen Alceste Heliodore Leo (1805-1882), the daughter of the President Gustav Adolf Ferdinand Heinrich Leo from Posen.
