Johann III. of Glymes or Jan III. van Bergen (born October 15, 1452 in Bergen op Zoom , † January 20, 1532 in Brussels ) was from 1494 lord of Bergen op Zoom , Walhain , Bierbais , Glymes , Woude , Wavre , Grimbergen and others.

Life

Johann III. was first chamberlain of Philip the Fair , Maximilian I and Charles V . In 1481 he became a Knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece and a member of the Privy Council. In 1508 he was sent to England to arrange the marriage of Mary Tudor (1496–1533) with Karl, but this did not materialize (she married Louis XII of France instead ). Johann III. was governor, captain general and Bailli of the county of Namur , adviser to Margaret of Austria , Maximilian's daughter and governor of the Habsburg Netherlands (1507–1530), and in 1530 became the executor of the will.
He corresponded with Thomas More , Erasmus of Rotterdam , Thomas Wolsey and Henry VIII of England .

Buried in the St. Gertruden Church in Bergen-op-Zoom.

Johann III. was the son of John II of Glymes and Margaretha of Rouveroy.
He married Adrienne de Brimeu, daughter of Guy de Brimeu , Seigneur de Humbercourt ( House of Brimeu ), and Antoinette de Rambures. The marriage contract is dated December 12, 1487. Adrienne died on May 31/1. June 1500. Her children were:

Since Johann III. his two older sons survived, both of whom died without an heir, his youngest son Anton succeeded him.
