Johann Kuehne

Johann Christoph Karl Kühne (born March 10, 1791 in Magdeburg , † August 2, 1870 in Elmen ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

origin

He was the son of the Magdeburg citizen and timber merchant Johann Heinrich Kühne and his wife Dorothea Elisabeth, née Rulff.

Military career

Kühne initially worked as a conductor in Kassel . During the Wars of Liberation , he joined the Prussian Army on November 24, 1813 as an engineer geographer with the II Army Corps . During the war, Kühne took part in the sieges of Maubeuge , Landrecies , Philippeville , Rocroi and Givet as well as the battles at Laon , Paris , Ligny and Waterloo in 1814/15 . In mid-March 1815 he was commanded as a second lieutenant in the army and to serve in the engineering corps . A year later he was transferred to the 1st Engineer Brigade and on March 24, 1817, while being promoted to Prime Lieutenant , Kühne joined the 2nd Engineer Brigade in Breslau . There he became captain at the end of September 1819 . From December 20, 1820, it was used by the 3rd Engineer Brigade. Kuehne was subsequently awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class for his work at Waterloo on April 8, 1825 . From December 20, 1829 to June 2, 1841, he worked for the 1st Engineer Inspection and Garrison Construction Department of the 1st Army Corps . Subsequently appointed engineer officer from the place in Danzig, Kühne was promoted to major on March 22, 1843, while remaining in this position , and transferred to the staff of the engineer corps. He acted from February 26, 1846 to July 6, 1849 as an engineer officer from the square in Magdeburg and was then appointed inspector of the 5th fortress inspection in Koblenz . In this position, Kuehne was on April 19, 1849 Lieutenant Colonel and on March 22, 1851 to Colonel promoted. Under awarding of the character as a major general, he received his on March 20, 1856 Farewell to the statutory pension .

On the occasion of King Wilhelm I's coronation celebrations , Kühne was awarded the Order of the Red Eagle II. Class with Oak Leaves in 1861 .

family

Kühne married Luise Friederike Wild († 1882) on June 12, 1824 in Magdeburg. She was a daughter of the soap manufacturer Johann Ludwig Wild. The marriage had five children; including the daughter Henriette Luise Klara (1827–1877), who married the later Prussian major general Albert Seelemann on November 16, 1857 .
