Albert Theodor Josef Seelemann (born December 12, 1821 in Berlin , † February 17, 1890 in Wiesbaden ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

Albert was the son of Franz Seelemann († 1850) and his wife Emilie, née Magnus († 1854). His father was a lieutenant a. D. , as well as hospital chief inspector and rendant of the general garrison hospital in Berlin.

Military career

Seelemann attended grammar school in Berlin and joined the 29th Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a fusilier on May 1, 1839 . By early January 1842 he was promoted to second lieutenant . Due to illness, he was in mid-August 1845 for one year disposition made and turned back on in his old regiment on 20 October. 1846 At the beginning of February 1847 he was transferred to the 25th Infantry Regiment . From November 11, 1850 to January 20, 1851, Seelemann was in command as an adjutant of the replacement battalion of the 30th Infantry Brigade . Subsequently, he acted as adjutant of the 2nd battalion until mid-October 1855 and became prime lieutenant in this position . As such, Seelemann was a company commander in the 2nd Battalion of the 25th Landwehr Regiment in Jülich for several years . On May 1, 1860 he was then commanded as a captain to the 25th Combined Infantry Regiment, from which the 5th Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 65 emerged . There Seelemann was appointed company commander on September 19, 1860 , before he was transferred back to the 1st Rhenish Infantry Regiment No. 25 on February 11, 1862. With this association , Seelemann took part in the fighting at Langensalza , Uettingen and Roßbrunn as well as the bombardment of Würzburg in 1866 during the German War .

After the peace treaty he worked briefly in the newly established Infantry Regiment No. 84 and was transferred to the 8th East Prussian Infantry Regiment No. 45 on May 18, 1867, when he was promoted to Major . From September 13, 1867, Seelemann was first in command of the II. Battalion and on January 27, 1870, he was given command of the Fusilier Battalion. He led this in 1870/71 during the war against France in the battles at Gravelotte and Noisseville , the siege of Metz and the enclosure of La Fère . Awarded the Iron Cross 2nd class, Seelemann was promoted to lieutenant colonel on the day of the imperial proclamation in Versailles .

On August 7, 1874, he was entrusted with the command of the 2nd East Prussian Grenadier Regiment No. 3 under position à la suite , before Seelemann was appointed regimental commander on September 15 and promoted to colonel on September 19, 1874 . On September 9, 1879, he received the Order of the Crown, 2nd class, for his services . On December 11, 1880, he was appointed commander of Neu-Breisach, while he was given the character of major general . With the statutory pension , Seelemann was made available on June 3, 1882, with the award of the Order of the Red Eagle, 2nd class with oak leaves.

After his departure, Seelemann first lived in Magdeburg and from November 1882 until his death in Wiesbaden.
