Johann Ludwig Wilhelm Hoffmann , von Hoffmann since 1830 , (born December 1, 1796 in Imken near Tapiau , † February 6, 1878 in Potsdam ) was a Prussian major general .

Life

family

His parents were the head forester in Imken Karl Ludwig Hoffmann and his wife Wilhelmine Margarete, née Kuhn.

Military career

Hoffmann went to school in Wehlau before he joined the 3rd East Prussian Landwehr Infantry Regiment of the Prussian Army as a volunteer hunter on April 10, 1813 . There he became second lieutenant on August 20, 1813 . During the Wars of Liberation Hoffmann fought in the battles near Großbeeren , Dennewitz and Leipzig . He took part in the transition at Wartenburg and fought in the battles at Neuhof, Jüterbog, Delfzyl, Maubeuge and the siege of Gorckum. For Leipzig Hoffmann was awarded the Iron Cross II Class and for Maubeuge the Russian Order of St. Vladimir IV Class with a ribbon.

After the war he joined the Königsberg Guard Landwehr Battalion on February 20, 1816, and on January 18, 1818, as a Premier Lieutenant in the Magdeburg Guard Landwehr Battalion. This was followed by a deployment in the Guard Reserve Infantry Landwehr Regiment from March 30, 1826. There he became a captain and company commander on June 13, 1827 . For his services Hoffmann was on August 28, 1830 by King Friedrich Wilhelm III. the hereditary Prussian nobility raised . On April 15, 1831 he became major and as such on March 26, 1841 the 2nd Commander of the III. Battalion in the 1st Guard Landwehr Regiment. On March 22, 1843 he was transferred to Königsberg as commander of the 1st Battalion in the 3rd Infantry Regiment . From 1845 he commanded the fusilier battalion. From January 2 to December 3, 1849 Hoffmann was in command of the 8th Infantry Regiment and in the meantime became a lieutenant colonel on May 8, 1849 . He was then appointed commander of the 3rd Infantry Regiment and in this capacity Hoffmann was promoted to colonel on January 18, 1854 . Already on August 8, 1854 he received his departure with the character of major general and the statutory pension . On October 18, 1861, Hoffmann received the Order of the Red Eagle III from King Wilhelm I. Class with a bow. He died on February 6, 1878 in Potsdam.

In his assessment by Colonel von Fuchs from 1847, it says: "If he is a role model for his subordinates, both on and off-duty, he leads his battalion with care and diligence, with personal agility coming to his aid."

family

He married Marie Auguste Wilhelmine Keller on April 15, 1832 in Potsdam (* January 30, 1814; † February 28, 1899). She was a daughter of the secret secretary and calculator Keller.
