Johann Manschgo

Johann Manschgo (also Johann Manschko , born September 19, 1800 in Weyer , † January 19, 1867 in Troppau ) was an Austrian portrait and genre painter .

Life

Manschgo studied at the Academy of Fine Arts in Vienna and participated in their exhibitions from 1826. He was also active as a poet and belonged to the circle of friends around the painter Moritz von Schwind and the composer Franz Schubert . In 1833 he followed Schwind to Munich , where he spent eleven years and continued his studies at the art academy there. Returned to Vienna in 1844, he worked as a portrait and genre painter. From 1854 he taught drawing at the lower secondary school in Opava and set up his studio there. In addition to miniatures , watercolors , oil paintings and illustrations , large-format altarpieces were also created there .
