Johann Nepomuk Schöpf (* 1733 in Prague , † 1798 probably in Graefelfing ) was a painter and etcher of the Baroque era .

Life

Schöpf learned the art of painting from his father Johann Adam Schöpf and then worked in his workshop. In 1761 he received a scholarship from the Munich court for a study trip to Rome. After his return he painted two pictures for the electoral anteroom of the Nymphenburg Palace and the paintings "Atalante", "Diogenes" and "Socrates". In 1765 he was appointed court painter to the elector and in 1770 a member of the royal art academy . In Bavaria and Transylvania he created numerous works that were influenced by the paintings of the Jesuit painter Andrea Pozzo .

Johann Nepomuk Schöpf was married to Katharina Faber from Regensburg. After a stay in Transylvania, he returned to Bavaria at the end of the 1770s and initially lived with his brother Ignaz in the parsonage in Egenburg near Pfaffenhofen an der Glonn . Together with this he moved to Graefelfing , where he presumably died.
