Johann Wilhelm Dittmar , since 1786 von Dittmar , (born May 4, 1725 in Kallies , † February 1, 1792 in Berlin ) was a Prussian major general , director of the III. Department of the Oberkriegskolleg and chief of the 1st field artillery regiment.

Life

origin

His parents were the chief preacher of Kallies Gottfried Christian Ludwig Laurentius Dittmar († May 25, 1733) and his wife, née Hatzfort.

Military career

Dittmar joined the field artillery corps of the Prussian Army on January 13, 1744 and fought in the Second Silesian War in the Battle of Kesselsdorf . In 1746 he became a non-commissioned officer and on August 9, 1748 Second Lieutenant of the 2nd Battalion. During the Seven Years' War he fought near Hochkirch and Torgau . By November 27, 1761, Dittmar was promoted to captain and company commander .

After the war he became major on April 15, 1772 , and on February 11, 1778, lieutenant colonel and commander of the 3rd field artillery regiment. As such, Dittmar took part in the War of the Bavarian Succession . On May 14, 1782 he became a colonel and on January 1, 1785 he was promoted to chief of the 2nd field artillery regiment. On December 11, 1786, he was transferred to the 3rd field artillery regiment as chief and at the same time appointed inspector general of the entire artillery. For his services , King Friedrich Wilhelm II raised him to the hereditary Prussian nobility on September 12, 1786 . On July 2, 1788 he was promoted to major general and, while remaining in his position as head of the regiment, became director of the III. Appointed departments in the Oberkriegskolleg , which administered the artillery . He died on February 1, 1792 in Berlin and was buried on February 6, 1792 in the Garrison Church.

Dittmar married Ernestine Sabine von Holtzmann on June 14, 1763 (* October 27, 1735 - † October 7, 1774). She was buried in the garrison church after her death. The couple have several children including:

After the death of his first wife, Dittmar married Margarethe Elisabeth von der Goltz on October 9, 1775 (* November 17, 1753; † April 11, 1800). She was the daughter of Joachim Rüdiger von der Goltz, heir to Hofstedt and Preusendorf, and Ernestine Diliana von Prebentow . The couple had several children:
