from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Johannes Erler , OFM (also Johann Erler ; Johann von Gardar ; * in Moys near Görlitz ; † 1476 in Zittau ) was titular bishop of Gardar and auxiliary bishop in Meißen and Breslau .

Life

Johannes Erler belonged to the Saxon Franciscan Province . As a licentiate in theology, Johannes Erler was a penitentiary to St. Peter in Rome. On July 12, 1432 he was appointed titular bishop of Gardar in Greenland and auxiliary bishop in Meissen. In his Lusatian homeland he presumably resided in an order-owned house in Zittau . From there, because of the Hussite Wars, the Archdiocese of Prague was administered by administrators appointed by the Pope since 1421 , and from 1434 to 1436 the seat of the Prague Cathedral Chapter was also located in Zittau. Johannes Erler's numerous pontifical acts as well as deacon and priest ordinations in the diocese of Meißen have come down to us up to 1447 .

After the death of Wroclaw Auxiliary Bishop Johann von Pannwitz in 1446, Johannes Erler has been in Wroclaw since August 9, 1447. There he also performed auxiliary episcopal acts. So he awarded z. B. on May 30, 1447 together with the Breslau bishop Konrad von Oels of the Marienkapelle in the Patschkau parish church for the main festivals of the year a 40-day indulgence. After the death of Bishop Konrad, he held the exequies in Breslau Cathedral . At the episcopal ordination of the successor Peter II. Nowag he worked on October 22, 1447 as co-consecrator. Likewise on January 12, 1455 at the consecration of the Olomouc bishop Bohuslaus von Zwole , who also received his consecration in Breslau.
