Johannes Ferinarius (also: Wildpräter ; * July 24, 1534 in Stephansdorf ; † November 30, 1602 in Marburg ) was a German educator and Lutheran theologian.

Life

Born as the son of a pastor Jacob Wildpräter who later worked in Neumark , he enrolled at the University of Wittenberg in 1553 , where he was a pupil of Philipp Melanchthon and came into contact with Caspar Peucer and Zacharias Ursinus . Through Ursinus he met Johann Crato von Krafftheim during a visit to his homeland , traveled to Worms , where he took part in an attempt to unite the Evangelicals with the Catholic Church in 1557 and then returned to Wittenberg as a private tutor.

In 1560 he went on an educational trip that took him to Holland , France , Geneva and Zurich . From there he was recommended to Padua by Conrad Gessner , then went back to Wittenberg via Augsburg . There he acquired the academic degree of a master's degree in March 1563 and began to give lectures at the Wittenberg Academy in May as a member of the philosophical faculty. After taking over the rectorate in Freistadt for a short time , he followed a call from Elector August von Saxony to Leucorea and in 1565 took over the dialectical professorship for Aristotelian ethics from Petrus Vincentius .

In 1566 he became dean of the philosophical faculty in this function , but returned to Freistadt the following year to lead the school there again until 1572. Subsequently, he followed a call from Duke Georg II of Brieger and set up schools there in the Duchy of Silesia, based on the model of the Saxon Princely School in Meissen , Grimma and Schulpforta . During this time he got into confessional conflicts and was released from his position as a cryptocalvinist at Easter 1575.

After a restless period in 1576, he found a job with Wilhelm IV of Hessen-Kassel as a professor of history and poetry at the University of Marburg . In 1577 he took over the management of the Pedagogical Center in Marburg and participated in the church changes in his new home.
