Johannes von Duisburg (* 1967 in Dresden ) is a German opera singer ( bass baritone ).

Life

education

Johannes von Duisburg began his vocal training while still at school. At the age of 20 he made his debut as a soloist at the Brandenburg Theater . After moving to West Berlin , he studied singing at the Berlin University of the Arts and, during this time, completed a master class with Kammersänger Dietrich Fischer-Dieskau . His regular singing teacher was the Bulgarian tenor Peter Gougaloff (* 1929) , who had been employed for many years at the Deutsche Oper Berlin .

Career

In 1991 he was engaged at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin , where he made his debut as Don Pizarro in Fidelio . Later he also took over the " Flying Dutchman " there and was considered to be the youngest actor in the title role.

Since 1992 he has been working as a freelancer. He was guest singer at opera houses in Barcelona, ​​Bologna, Cagliari, Florence, Geneva, Lisbon, Moscow, Naples, Prague, St. Petersburg, Cologne, Budapest, Rome (Accademia di Santa Cecilia, Teatro dell'Opera) and Warsaw. His stage roles included u. a. Jochanaan in Salome , Amonasro in Aida , Kaspar in Der Freischütz , Escamillo in Carmen , Scarpia in Tosca and Sarastro in Die Zauberflöte .

In November 2001 he sang Amonasro in Tokyo with José Cura (Radames) as a partner. In the 2002/03 season Johannes von Duisburg appeared as Telramund in Lohengrin at the Teatro Comunale di Bologna (conductor: Daniele Gatti ) and as "Dutchman" at the Teatro San Carlo in Naples . In the 2003/04 season he made his debut as Wanderer in Siegfried at the Gran Teatre del Liceu in Barcelona (conductor: Bertrand de Billy , staging: Harry Kupfer ). In the 2004/05 season he made his Wotan debut in Die Walküre in a production by Hans-Peter Lehmann in Breslau . In July 2005 he sang Amonasro in a new Aida production at the Savonlinna Opera Festival with Michèle Crider in the title role as partner.

In the 2006/07 season he made his role debut as Claggart in Billy Budd (production: Willy Decker ) at the Cologne Opera . In the 2007/08 season he made his debut at the Teatro Nacional de São Carlos in Lisbon with the four »villains« (Lindorf, Coppélius, Dr Miracle and Dapertutto) in a new production of Hoffmann's tales .

In 2009 he made his role debut as Hans Sachs in a new Meistersinger production on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Hildesheim City Theater (director: Hans-Peter Lehmann).

In the 2010/11 season he appeared at the Heidenheim Opera Festival as Don Pizarro. He also sang Hans Sachs at the Landestheater Linz and Jochanaan at the Teatro Verdi in Trieste . In the 2012/13 season he appeared as Amonasro at the Royal Opera House Muscat ( Oman ). In the 2013/14 season he appeared in a new production at the Hildesheim City Theater as " Fliegender Holländer ". Johannes von Duisburg has also made guest appearances at the Israeli Opera in Tel-Aviv and at the Michailowski Theater in Saint Petersburg .

Duisburg also worked with conductors such as Rafael Frühbeck de Burgos , Leopold Hager , Alain Lombard , Chung Myung-whun and Pinchas Steinberg .

Until 2014 he taught singing at the Franz Liszt Music Academy in Budapest . In April 2015 Johannes von Duisburg was appointed chamber singer . In May 2016 von Duisburg celebrated his 25th stage anniversary as Jochanaan in a Salome festival at the Mecklenburg State Theater in Schwerin.
