John Kalodner

John David Kalodner is a former American A&R manager .

Life

1976-1980: Atlantic Records

His first successes included signing Foreigner , AC / DC , Peter Gabriel and Phil Collins for Atlantic Records in the 1970s .

1980-1994: Geffen Records

He was hired as the first A&R manager by David Geffen in 1980 for his new record company Geffen Records , where he worked with White Zombie , Madness , XTC , Whitesnake , Wang Chung , Nelson and Aerosmith . He was responsible for the solo successes of Jimmy Page and Sammy Hagar and initiated the Coverdale-Page project . He also put songs on soundtracks for Geffen for films such as Top Gun and Footloose .

1994-2007: Columbia Records

Kalodner left Geffen after Aerosmith moved to Columbia in the 1990s, working with Cher , Santana , Journey , Manowar , Chicago , Heart , Iron Maiden , Joe Satriani , Steve Vai , Ted Nugent , REO Speedwagon , Mars Electric, and the Black Crowes .

Kalodner's special status was usually highlighted by the fact that he got his own credits for being himself on the albums of the artists he supervised . According to information on his personal website, the phrase "John Kalodner: John Kalodner" used for the credits was created through his collaboration with Foreigner on the album Double Vision . The producer Keith Olsen wondered how he was worthy Kalodners commitment to the album and the band; Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones then came up with the idea of ​​simply doubling the name.

Kalodner still worked with Billy Idol , Jack Blades , Roadster , Steve Perry and Cher before retiring in 2007.
