John Raymond Ylitalo

John Raymond Ylitalo (born December 25, 1916 in Floodwood , Minnesota , † February 10, 1987 in Washington, DC ) was an American diplomat .

Life

John Raymond Ylitalo was married to Jean Sarchet. At St. Olaf College doctorate he with the distinction magna cum laude and acquired in 1938 a Master Title in business administration at Northwestern University . In 1941 he became a special agent at the Federal Bureau of Investigation in New York City . In 1946 he entered the diplomatic service.

Since he had Finnish ancestry and spoke fluent Finnish, he was accredited as a political attaché at the US Embassy in Helsinki from October 1, 1946 to 1950 . Later he was in the US State Department deputy head of security and confidant for, from the United States Department of War adopted , The Pond . The reports from The Pond qualified him as a crap . From 1950 to 1952 he was a representative of the US State Department at the Munich Consulate .

On March 6, 1959, Ylitalo, as US consul from Cebu City, reported to the State Department about Conditions Affecting Cultural Presentation in Cebu . Until 1969 he was at the US Embassy in Mexico City.

Ylitalo was appointed US ambassador to Alfredo Stroessner in Asunción by Richard Nixon on July 22, 1969 and handed over his letter of accreditation on August 14, 1969. When Ylitalo, Stroessner was unable to extradite Auguste Ricord to the USA, he was elected for the 11th time. Dismissed September 1972. At the suggestion of William P. Rogers , Nelson Gerard Gross was appointed the Coordinator on International Narcotics Matters from his State Department. Uruguay had its own US ambassador at the time, Charles Wallace Adair Jr. From 1973 until his retirement in 1976, Ylitalo was consul general in Toronto.

Ylitalo died of cancer at Sibley Memorial Hospital in Washington.
