Johnny Dusbaba (born March 14, 1956 in The Hague ) is a former Dutch football player. Very talented, he won championships with Ajax, Anderlecht and Standard Liège and made it to the Dutch national team four times , but his lifestyle stood in the way of a bigger career. During his contract period in Breda he had finally reached a body weight of 108 kilograms.

The defender started his career at ADO Den Haag . From 1974 he played for Ajax Amsterdam where he won the national championship in 1977 under coach Tomislav Ivić . With Barry Hulshoff , Ruud Krol , Wim Suurbier and the no longer used goalkeeper Heinz Stuy , there were some comrades-in-arms who still reminded of the golden Ajax years at the beginning of the decade.

In the following season he moved to Belgium to RSC Anderlecht where he won the European Cup Winners' Cup under coach Raymond Goethals in his first season with a 4-0 victory in the final in Paris over FK Austria Vienna . In 1981 he won the Belgian championship with the Brussels suburb club, this time led by Tomislav Ivić. His fellow campaigners in those years included his compatriots and runner-up world champions from 1974, star strikers Rob Rensenbrink and Arie Haan, as well as Belgian stars Frank Vercauteren and François van der Elst .

Johan Neeskens, Wim Suurbier, Hugo Hovenkamp, Ruud Krol, Johan Cruijff and Johnny Dusbaba after the game against Belgium in 1977.

In 1977, coach Ernst Happel set up twice in place of the injured Wim Rijsbergen in three qualifying matches for the national team for the 1978 World Cup in Argentina . In the games against Iceland, Northern Ireland and Belgium there were three wins with 6-1 goals. He did not receive an invitation for the finals in which the Netherlands were runner-up. Happel's successor Jan Zwartkruis put him up again in October 1978 in a European Championship qualifying match for Italy in 1980 against Switzerland: the Dutch won 3-1 in Bern's Wankdorf Stadium.

In the 1981/82 season he won the Belgian championship again with Standard Liège . Once again the coach was an old friend: Raymond Goethals. The championship was only decided in the last game with a 3-1 win against Waterschei SV Thor . In 1984 it was determined by Judge Guy Bellemans that Waterschei had been paid for the defeat. This season, Standard also made it into the European Cup Winners' Cup final where the team lost 1-2 against Udo Lattek 's FC Barcelona and Danish superstar Allan Simonsen at the Camp Nou in Barcelona. Dusbaba was only used in the games of the first and second round of the competition. Goalkeeper Michel Preud'homme and captain Eric Gerets were the Belgian stars of the team. In addition, compatriot Arie Haan , the Swedish striker Benny Wendt and the Swiss René Botteron were well-known players in the squad. Dusbaba competed 16 times for the Walloons.

From 1982 he played again in the Netherlands, this time at NAC Breda where he was relegated to the second division in 1983. In 1984 he joins the Belgian first division promoted Sint-Niklaas SK , which is also immediately relegated. After the 1985/86 season, Johnny Dusbaba ended his playing career.
