Jonathan Maier (born December 9, 1992 in Schramberg ) is a German basketball player . Maier moved to the basketball academy of the first division club from Ludwigsburg in 2009 . In addition to the junior team in the youth basketball league (NBBL), Maier also played for the cooperation partner Kirchheim Knights in the second-highest German division ProA . After individual missions with a double license in the basketball Bundesliga 2011/12 for EnBW Ludwigsburg in the top German division, Maier switched to Ludwigsburg league competitor ratiopharm Ulm in 2013. Here, too, Maier was mainly used in the “ farm team ” of the first division, who play as Weissenhorn young stars in the third-highest division ProB . As of 2014, Maier was a member of the German A2 national team.

Career

Maier began playing basketball with the Sharks from Staufen im Breisgau , for whom he had already made his first appearances in the men's area and played for the youth team of the former first division club USC Freiburg , among other things . In 2009 Maier switched to the basketball academy of the first division club EnBW from Ludwigsburg , whose junior team plays in the youth basketball league (NBBL). After two years in the NBBL, Maier played from the ProA 2011/12 for the Ludwigsburg cooperation partner VfL Knights from Kirchheim unter Teck in the second-highest division ProA and got his first two short appearances at EnBW Ludwigsburg in the top German division thanks to a double license . After the Kirchheimers had defended the second main round place in the play-offs for promotion in 2012 and had moved into the final series, they had to forego promotion because of the licensing requirements of the top division. In the basketball Bundesliga 2012/13 Maier did not get a chance at the latest after a coach change under the new coach John Patrick and he also stumbled with the Kirchheimers, who as runner-up in the previous season in the ProA 2012/13 only made the penultimate place in the table and only achieved relegation with a " wildcard ".

For the Basketball Bundesliga 2013/14 Maier moved to the Ludwigsburg league competitor ratiopharm from Ulm . With the young stars from Weißenhorn , the Ulm team also had a farm team that played in the third-highest division ProB . With the Ulm team, Maier was now back with a double license in the top division and achieved twelve appearances in the 2013/14 first division under coach Thorsten Leibenath with just under five minutes per game, including a brief assignment in the play-offs for the championship when Ulm lost in the first round to later runner-up Alba Berlin . In addition, Maier had nine appearances in the second most important European club competition Eurocup 2013/14 , in which the team was eliminated in the second round. With the young stars Maier could only ensure relegation in the ProB in the relegation round of the ProB 2013/14 . After Maier was in the extended squad of the junior national team, but had missed a nomination for the U20 European Championship in 2012, he was a member of the A2 national team in summer 2014. In the 2014/15 season, Maier is mainly used for the young stars and has so far had three short appearances for the Ulm first division team in the first half of the 2014/15 basketball Bundesliga .

In August 2018, he and a selection of German and US players under the direction of coach Ralph Junge won an international invitation tournament in Shanghai, China, endowed with 200,000 dollars . In the 2018/19 season he achieved promotion to the Bundesliga as a runner-up in the 2nd Bundesliga ProA with Nuremberg. Maier scored 7.1 points and 4.3 rebounds per game in the promotion season.
